Stewed Tomatoes Gobbledygook

Sweet and tangy stewed tomatoes cooked down with sugar and spices—great as a side dish or topping for cornbread, rice, or meats.

Ingredients:
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes, with liquid
  • 3 slices stale bread, torn into pieces
  • 2/3 cup white sugar 1/4 cup butter, melted 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
Directions:
  1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 1 1/2 quart baking dish.
  2. Stir the tomatoes, bread, sugar, butter, salt, and pepper in a bowl; pour into the prepared dish.
  3. Bake until hot and the tomatoes are tender, about 45 minutes.
